Cyberpunk 2077 Game of the Year Edition is on its way to land in 2023, according to CD Projekt Red’s CEO Adam Kicinski, who stated in an investor meeting that the company plans to release a GOTY edition for Cyberpunk 2077 next year. The upcoming edition will arrive after the first-paid expansion of the title, Phantom Liberty, and another major update make their debut.
Kicinski states that “it is the natural order of things,” and refers to how CD Projekt released The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Game of the Year Edition after the launch of two expansions, Blood and Wine and Hearts of Stone. “It has been on the market that way ever since. The same can be expected in this case,” says the CEO. It seems like the company is adamant to ensure that their once-troubled dystopian action-adventure title gets the GOTY treatment next year.
While there is no word on a definitive release and detailed info on the final edition’s content, Kicinski says that the upcoming edition will certainly include Phantom Liberty, which will be the only expansion for the game. According to a report from Stockwatch.pl, another crucial update will follow after Phantom Liberty’s launch to allow CDPR to finally wrap up and shelve Cyberpunk 2077.
During an investor meeting in Warsaw, Kicinski stated that CDPR has intentions to start building on Cyberpunk 2077’s success, which resulted in the most successful third quarter in its history. The game was first documented as a colossal failure by the company due to its disastrous launch on last gen consoles. But following new updates and the release of the hit anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, the developers saw a massive spike in the title’s sales.
While CD Projekt has big plans for 2023, the company are yet to conclude 2022, as the next-gen update for The Witcher 3 is slated to arrive on December 14. The Poland-based game giant recently opened a new studio in Boston and announced six new projects, including a new Witcher trilogy, The Witcher Remake, and a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 with the codename ‘Orion’. Alongside the plethora of upcoming projects, the company will also focus on a new IP, codenamed Hadar.
