Indie company Manga Productions has announced that their story-based arcade runner Future’s Folktales: Hopper Quest has soft-launched in a fair few regions. Namely, Finland, Norway, Iceland, Sweden, Denmark, Philippines, and Mexico will have access to this brand-new game as of today.
Based on the old classic anime series of the same title, Future’s Folktales: Hopper Quest is also co-produced by Toei Animation themselves, giving this little mobile release tons of credibility for fans of the series.
Set in the year 2050, the story of Future’s Folktales is centred around a family whose grandmother “Asmaa” keeps a record of folktales from the Arabian Peninsula, and then recounts said folktales to her three grandchildren, imparting a message each time that helps them out in their daily lives.
How this translates to an arcade runner style of game is fairly simple to describe, as the gameplay loop is essentially completing these levels that see you hopping from lane to lane to avoid incoming obstacles, and upon completing a certain amount of them, you’ll unlock a story beat that will further the plot.
On top of the relatively by-the-books gameplay, there are over 20 separate characters to freshen up the experience, as each comes with its own unique abilities that are never the same among the entire cast. As you play with each character, you’ll learn more about their story and personality as a whole.
So, whether you’re a fan of the runner genre or a fan of the classic Future’s Folktales anime, there’s plenty on offer here to entice you. If you’d like to give it a go yourself and are located in one of the regions mentioned above, you can download it for free at either of the links below!
