Intrepid Izzy announces Console port release date

Intrepid Izzy, the beat-em-up platformer from Senile Team, has just announced that it will be ported to the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox on December 2nd, 2022. The game was previously launched on PC back in 2020. Here’s the big reveal from publisher Ratalaika Games:

Intrepid Izzy is an overlooked little gem, which combines an HD feel with retro visuals. It was Senile Team’s big start, and since then they’ve also worked on Rush Rush Rally Reloaded, an improved take on the classic Dreamcast game.

Publisher Ratalaika Games has previously ported dozens of other indies, so the new console port for Intrepid Izzy should be pretty solid. Sometimes, smaller indies built for a PC can struggle on consoles, denying interesting devs their right to a fanbase.

Intrepid Izzy has carefully blended nostalgic mechanics with a balanced gameplay style, with more than enough content for such a small game. There are also plenty of indies out there borrowing from the exact same genres and era, but Intrepid Izzy has a certain charm and flow to it that helps it stand out.

The story and art design are very appealing, and clearly understand the overall sense of joy from the classics. There’s a variety of abilities and environments, which definitely buffs the replay value.

It’s a shame that the release date only just misses PlayStation’s big End of Year deals, which were just announced today. However, it will still have the chance to potentially join Xbox Game Pass sometime, which remains one of the best mines for hidden gems.

Intrepid Izzy may also find a new audience on the Nintendo Switch, thanks to its natural mobile flavors. A lot of reviews on the Steam product page agree that it has an Amiga game style, too.
