Resident Evil 4 Remake dominated UK retail sales for a second week, although its sales decreased by 69% compared to the previous week. Despite this decline, it remained the top-selling game, followed by FIFA 23, which saw a 34% increase in sales and climbed to second place, displacing Hogwarts Legacy to third.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 also experienced a boost in sales by 58% and moved up two positions to fourth place, along with 34 other titles that benefitted from discounts and promotions. Warner Bros’ Gotham Knights was the most significant gainer, which re-entered the charts at No.6 after a staggering 999% rise in sales. The impressive sales for Gotham Knights propelled it past mainstays God of war: Ragnarok and Minecraft (Switch Edition).
Additionally, Super Mario Odyssey received a 5% sales boost from the sales of the Switch hardware bundle and ongoing promotions for The Super Mario Bros Movie, which is set to premiere in cinemas on Thursday. With the first Mario movie in theaters since 1993’s flop, Nintendo’s flagship franchise sales are expected to spike demand despite the lack of a direct tie-in.
Missing from this week’s list are new titles. Last week in the UK, no major titles were released, though originally, multiple major names were expected in March 2023. Instead, everyone is looking forward to April, which will feature Dead Island 2 and the long-awaited Nintendo Switch remake collection, Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp.
The biggest upcoming games are Star Wars: Jedi Survivor and Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, which finally releases for the PlayStation and Xbox consoles after being stuck on Nintendo Switch and PC. May, featuring the follow-up to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, will reverse the projected downward slide of April, and could carry the industry through the typically lackluster summer months.
