Striking Distance says more Callisto Protocol patches are coming: ‘We want you to play the game as intended’

Striking Distance Studios has released several patches targeting The Callisto Protocol performance issues, and said it’s working on further updates so that users can “play the game as intended”.

The third-person survival horror title was released on Friday and players were quick to highlight issues including gameplay stuttering on PC and frame rate and crash issues on consoles.

Updates targeting these issues were released over the weekend, and the game’s developer has said it plans to detail further planned improvements early this week.

“Thanks for your patience,” it tweeted on Saturday. “A PC patch is now available to improve gameplay stuttering issues due to shader compilation.

“After updating, you may see temporary stuttering in the game menu the first time you launch the app. We are working on further optimizations in the days ahead.”

And it said on Sunday: “There are patches live for all consoles that should fix frame rate and crash issues that some of you have reported.

“We are listening, working hard on updates, and will have details to share on more upcoming improvements early this week.”

Following up on this message, Dead Space creator and Striking Distance CEO Glen Schofield wrote: “As we say in the tweet, we will communicate and keep you all updated. We want you to play the game as intended.”

Striking Distance said issues with ray-traced reflections on Xbox Series X is an area it’s planning to address in a future update.

The Callisto Protocol challenges players to escape a maximum security prison on one of Jupiter’s moons in the year 2320, after a mysterious outbreak begins transforming its inmates into monstrous creatures.

VGC’s The Callisto Protocol review called the game “a solid, but safe Dead Space successor” which is lacking in originality but delivers strong strategic combat.

Striking Distance recently detailed its DLC roadmap for The Callisto Protocol. Over the next six months the game will receive a mixture of free content updates for all players, including New Game Plus and Hardcore modes in February, and fresh story content for season pass holders in summer 2023.
