A loss felt by many. Kirstie Alley’s former costars, including Tim Allen, Kristin Chenoweth and John Travolta are morning her death after news broke on Monday, December 5, that she’d died at age 71.
“We are sad to inform you that our incredible, fierce and loving mother has passed away after a battle with cancer, only recently discovered,” Alley’s daughters, William “True” Stevenson and Lillie Stevenson, announced in a statement. “She was surrounded by her closest family and fought with great strength, leaving us with a certainty of her never-ending joy of living and whatever adventures lie ahead.”
The family concluded: “Our mother’s zest and passion for life, her children, grandchildren and her many animals, not to mention her eternal joy of creating, were unparalleled and leave us inspired to live life to the fullest just as she did.”
The Cheers alum’s famous friends and fellow Hollywood stars were quick to pay homage to her life’s work and her vivacious personality.
“A sweet soul pass[es] on in Kristie Alley,” Allen, 69, who was Alley’s costar in 1997’s For Richer or Poorer, tweeted on Monday. “Sad, sad news.”
Chenoweth, meanwhile, revealed via Instagram, “I can’t believe you’re gone.” The 54-year-old Oklahoma native, who briefly starred alongside the late actress on two episodes of Kirstie, also shared photos from the comedy, which ran from 2013 to 2014.
Travolta is another one of Alley’s closest confidants who made a cameo on the TVLand show, which was canceled after one season. The Grease star, 68, and the Kansas native, however, were best known for their work on 1989’s Look Who’s Talking and 1990’s Look Who’s Talking Too.
“Kirstie was one of the most special relationships I’ve ever had,” Travolta wrote via social media on Monday alongside a carousal of photos from their decades-long friendship.
Clancy Brown, who acted with the Veronica’s Closet alum on more than one occasion posted a throwback picture from their 1988 film, Shoot to Kill. “She was beautiful in so many ways,” Brown, 63, recalled via Instagram. “There was no one like her on earth.”
Alley is survived by her children, True, 30, and Lillie, 28, whom she shared with ex-husband Parker Stevenson. The exes, who split in 1997 after 14 years of marriage also shared three grandchildren.
